House of Representatives has asked the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) to reopen its orientation camp in Maiduguri, Borno State.
This followed the adoption of a motion by Usman Zannah at plenary on Wednesday.
The House said despite the peace in the state, the NYSC has refused to reopen the camp.
It mandated its Committee on Youth Development to investigate the “refusal” of the NYSC to reopen the camp.
Zannah said the orientation camp, shut down about 10 years ago following killings by the Boko Haram terrorists in Borno State, was yet to be reopened despite the “return of peace” to Borno State.
He said despite the efforts of the Borno State Government in making adequate arrangements to ensure the safety and wellbeing of corps members posted to the state, the NYSC management still chose to post corps members deployed to Borno State to undergo their orientation camp in Katsina State amidst the security challenges in the North West.
The House said the high rate of insecurity in Kastina State was capable of affecting corps members’ psychology and exposing them to bandit attacks while travelling for camping.
