Veteran Nigerian actor Chiwetalu Agu has showered praises on music star Yemi Alade, commending her for proudly representing African culture at the 67th Grammy Awards.
Although Alade did not secure a Grammy win, Agu noted that her presence and choice of attire at the event were significant victories in their own right.
“Yemi Alade, you are a queen; the queen you think you are,” Agu declared in a video shared on Instagram on Tuesday.
Expressing his admiration further, he added, “She may not have won the Grammy, but she clearly won my heart. If there is nobody to say it, I, Chief Chiwetalu, will give you your flowers while you can still smell them.”
The veteran actor said that Alade’s traditional African attire was a testament to her cultural pride.
“Not only did she represent Afrobeat, she also represented the African culture through her attire at the Grammy Awards. She was not there to impress anyone. Her outfit was screaming, ‘I did not come to impress you. I know my roots,’” he remarked.
Beyond her music, Agu praised Alade’s character and influence, saying, “Do we talk about how decent and natural she has been as an artist? Or how beautiful she is as a woman? Or how talented, disciplined, reserved, established, and humble she is as a lady? Yemi, keep on being the role model you are to so many young girls. Chief Chiwetalu admires and loves you so much. I pray you find your ‘Johnny’ at the right time.”
In response, Yemi Alade expressed her gratitude in a heartfelt comment, writing, “I’m not gonna lie. Someone is cutting one full bag of onions. God bless you, sir.
